The Legal Wife

Since I started writing blogs two years ago, I never had the chance ( or rather I was not that interested ) to write a review or to comment on a particular movie or TV series.   After I have seen all the episodes of The Legal Wife , a Filipino family drama TV series ( a teleserye)  which ended up recently as one of the blockbuster prime time shows of AB S-CBN,  here I am NOW, reflecting on the past scenes,  digesting all that has been said and done in every episode, spending time in determining  how effective the teleserye had been to me and to other Filipino viewers as well.

The story revolved around  Monica Santiago ( perfectly played by Angel Locsin), her past encounters with her mother Eloisa ( portrayed by Rio Locsin) and how she tried to cope in an entirely new environment with her father Javier ( played by Christopher De Leon) and her two brothers Javi and Jasper ( played by Joem Bascon and Ahron Villena, respectively).  Through a set of circumstances, Monica met Adrian ( played by Jericho Rosales ), fell in love and married him but eventually turned out unfaithful to her and broke her heart.

The theme of The Legal Wife is very universal , timely and relevant.  It's all about the infidelity of Adrian  to his  wife Monica  in favor of Nicole ( portrayed by Maja Salvador ).  The story became more complicated when Adrian bore a love child with Nicole.  The presence of Max Gonzales ( portrayed by JC de Vera)  in Monica's life further complicated the relationships and  their characters were finally put to test by the challenges that push them to sacrifice their personal happiness for the sake of their respective families.  Mark Gil perfectly played the role of an ex-lover to Monica's mother, a disturbed business partner to Christopher de Leon, and a loving Dad to Nicole.  Matet de Leon also gave a very good supporting role as Nicole's honest-to-goodness best friend.

After running for almost five (5) months, the finale week became the talk of the town.  Every one seems so excited to see how the teleserye would end.

Personally, and perhaps like most of the Filipino viewers, I wanted a happy ending .  I wanted to see that Monica and Adrian will live happily ever after together with their children in the end and Nicole will feel all the remorse after deciding to have an illicit affair with Adrian.  But I also prepared myself to see otherwise ~ that Angel and Adrin will finally decide to separate ways and live on their own.

But the directors and the writers of the series seem to have decided to give freedom for  the viewers to come up with their own endings.  First, it concluded Nicole's decision to finally accept her defeat and have a new life with his Dad (played by Mark Gil).  It was followed by Angel's statement to her mother (Rio Locsion)  that she still loves Adrian and will fight for him.  The next scene created some complications when Angel seemed uncertain to live her life again with Adrian despite the latter's great desire to start all over again.  I could imagine how sad my husband has been when he saw Adrian almost leaving Monica.  But the final twist came when Monica gave back to Adrian his wedding ring, telling him that he can wear the ring again and will wait for the time that they'll be back to each other's arm.  The series simply ended with both of them smiling at each other from a distance  ~ no hugs and kisses!  It was OPEN-ENDED!  BITIN!!

Will there be a Part 2, or a sequel?  That I still do not know.

Below are some of the memorable scenes  and lines grabbed from Angel Locsin Official Page  relative to the ever famous teleserye . . . THE LEGAL WIFE which  historically broke some ABS-CBN's teleserye records.

the leading characters (L-R)  Angel Locsin as Monica, Jericho Rosales as Adrian and Maja Salvador as Nicole

This is how in love  Adrian and Monica  were before . . .

MONICA ( Angel Locsin  on the right )  AKIN LANG ANG ASAWA KO!

How many times will you say sorry? And how many times will you forgive him?

The teleserye's by-products

As a legal wife,  I should say and am not afraid to say this!
