It was just awesome, unbelievably rewarding and very relaxing that after a day's work, you were serenaded by a bunch of musically talented and good-looking young people, dressed up to the nines, vibrant, oozing with enthusiasm to make other people happy by using their God-given talents. The perfect rendition of the musical numbers embedded in a well-planned repertoire just made our night heavenly. The group was able to connect incredibly with their selected musical pieces and all their heterogeneous audiences ~ from the young once, the recent adults, and the real youngsters. An overture of Filipino folklore songs dating as far as the 15th century made me feel great and proud of our past and excellently gave the young once the chance to hum silently the medley of Dahil Sa Iyo, Dandansoy and Pamulinawen ( I hope I have guessed the pieces right... hehe ) as well as the different Kundiman composed by Nicanor Abelardo and Francisco Santiago . The flawless execution of our very own folk songs like Planting Rice and Leron Leron Sinta brought me back somewhere in time when I used to sing those songs with my classmates inside our Grade 1 classroom. But the uproar inside the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium at De La Salle University in Taft Avenue came when the orchestra started playing the hits of the Apo Hiking, Parokya ni Edgar, Eraserhead and the Rivermaya. The crowd simply couldn't let go of the night without an encore !
Congratulations, La Sallian Youth Orchestra! Your SERENATA last July 25, 2014 was not just an ordinary performance. It was seriously impressive and a big hit! Keep up the good work guys! And for the people behind the group, keep on coming up with more concerts in the future!
Special mention goes to the " big " guy on the keyboard, DERYK BALADJAY! Together with Papayu and Tita Gandz, we're so proud of you, Kuya! CONGRATULATIONS to you and also to Daddy Jay and Mommy Meanne , including James and Kitkat, for their undying support to your musical endeavor. God bless you all!
